Bluestock, the first national blues convention and showcase, will take place in Memphis on Beale Street on Nov. 22 and 23. It will feature panels, workshops, showcases, and social events. The event is being presented by Crossroads Music Expo, the Blues Foundation and BlueSpeak, and is taking place in conjunction with the International Blues Talent Competition of the Blues Foundation. Artists not competing in the talent competition are eligible to enter the Bluestock showcases. The best unsigned blues-based bands and artists will perform on Beale Street for industry executives and fans. The Blues Foundation will record many acts for broadcast on their globally syndicated radio program Beale Street Caravan. To be considered for Bluestock, bands or artists have to submit a completed application, a two-song cassette/CD, biography, photo and $10 processing fee (check or money order). Entries must be received by Oct. 27, and should be sent to: Bluestock, P.O. Box 41858, Memphis, TN 38174-1858. More details are available on the application form. Categories of type of blues are: jump, acoustic, Delta/juke, soul, urban, and crossover/rock. Artists will be notified of acceptance by Oct. 31.
